Storm Damage and Insurance Work

Depending on the area you live in you may have noticed an increase amount of roofing and siding work being done. In particular you may have heard of storm chasers and neighbors getting a free roof or free siding from their insurance company. Some of this probably sounded too good to be true and some of it was. However, storm damage is a real threat to your home and the Chicagoland area was hit by a very large hail storm during April 5th and 6th of 2010. There were also a couple of minor hail storms that hit a few other areas around us during June and July. At Woodstar Remodeling, we are experienced in working with insurance companies to get your home properly restored.

Why you need to act now?

With most insurance policies you have 1 year after a hail storm to make a claim. We are at this deadline with the April 5th storm. If you think you may have been hit by the storm please contacts us for a free hail inspection. This a no obligation, no pressure inspection that doesn't require you to be home; so please feel free to contact us even if you just want us to confirm that you haven't been hit. Call, Email or Fill out the form on the sidebar for your free inspection. If you do have damage will walk you through the entire process.

Will I get a Free roof or siding?

If you have damage your replacement won't be free but it will only cost the price of your deductible. Most roofing and siding replacements are in the $8,000 to $20,000 range and homeowners are usually only paying $250 to $1,000 for this work. While not free that is a really good deal!

Would you like to also help the community?

If these are not enough reasons to have us give you a free hail inspection we would like to donate $100 to the local community organization of your choice for referring us to others. Why is Hail Damage a Concern?

Most of the times hail damage on roofing shingles is very difficult to spot to those not in the roofing industry. When a hail ball hits a shingle it will knock the granules off and at the same time weaken the asphalt mat below. The granules are what protects the asphalt mat from the sun's rays. Without this protection the asphalt dries out, cracks and ultimately the shingle will now fail in half the time it would have otherwise. This leads to a roof that will start leak causing water and mold damage issues. In the insurance industry's eyes this will be a must costlier claim in the future then to fix the problems before they happens. As for siding, the problems experienced are water damage and loss of home value.

What are Signs of Hail Damage?

The easiest way to spot hail damage is by looking at soft metals such as roof vents, gutters, aluminum siding, grills on air conditioners or trim around windows. When looking at shingles there are usually tiny round blemishes that can be spotted. On vinyl siding there will be cracks present.
